It wasn’t until I began school for art, that I was able to appreciate conceptual art and art installations. I now understand how powerful these mediums can be. I have plans to continue to develop and cultivate my art installation storytelling messages. What I truly love about this medium, is that the final product isn’t something to be sold, but something to be experienced.
This was an art “happening” time based media project. To continue the subject matter and conversation around school shootings I created a video using news footage of past shootings, adding violent gun sounds while projecting the video inside the classroom onto students holding pages asking questions about ways to prevent gun violence. This was a powerful piece and was a great final project for my Art Practices course. The idea was to remind all of the students in class that we are all affected by gun violence and we can all be the solution.
